Our hand-wiped stains bring out the natural beauty and unique grain patterns of each wood species with precision and care. The process begins with careful sanding and tacking of all surfaces to prepare them for a flawless finish. Next, we spray a transparent stain across the entire surface, allowing it to penetrate deeply into the wood. Skilled craftsmen then hand-wipe the stain to achieve the perfect color.

To ensure durability, we apply three coats of catalyzed varnish, hand-sanding between each coat for a smooth and resilient topcoat. For framed doors, we pre-stain the edges of solid wood center panels before assembly, minimizing shrinkage lines caused by seasonal changes.

Our attention to detail extends to every element. Drawer boxes, roll-outs, and custom interior wood accessories are finished naturally with catalyzed varnish, while interior shelves and other wood accessories feature a natural UV finish. This meticulous process guarantees a finish that is both beautiful and long-lasting.

Solid color finishes, often called painted finishes, offer versatile styling options to complement both traditional and contemporary designs. However, it’s essential to set clear expectations with customers, as these finishes are more sensitive to climate changes and daily use. They require extra care and attention to maintain their long-term durability. Issues like cracking, chipping, or marring may occur due to factors beyond our control and are not covered for repair or replacement.

To achieve these finishes, we use Paint Grade Maple or Birch hardwoods for cabinet construction and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) for door and drawer center panels. This minimizes natural shrinkage lines that can develop with solid wood panels. For “rub-through” applications, Paint Grade Alder hardwood is an ideal choice.

The process begins with meticulous sanding and tacking to prepare the surfaces. We then apply two coats of solid color, with light hand sanding and tacking between coats for a flawless finish. To seal in the color and ensure durability, we add two coats of dull rubbed catalyzed varnish, creating a resilient topcoat.

Drawer boxes, roll-outs, and custom interior wood accessories are finished naturally with catalyzed varnish, while interior shelves and other wood accessories feature a natural UV finish. This comprehensive approach delivers a polished and enduring result.
