A Thoughtful Kitchen Remodel in O’Fallon, MO That Turned Into a Full Main-Level Transformation
Like many of our recent projects, this kitchen remodel in O’Fallon, MO started as a simple update—and quickly evolved into a full main-level remodel. The home was built in the late 1990s and came with several classic design challenges from that era that limited both function and flow.

The Challenges of this Kitchen Remodel in O’Fallon, MO
To begin with, a non-recessed corner sink made the corner workspace feel tight and inefficient. In addition, the refrigerator sat in an awkward location that disrupted traffic patterns. A dated desk with a lap drawer also consumed valuable real estate that could have been used for much-needed kitchen storage. Finally, bulky soffits forced the wall cabinets to stop at 30 inches, leaving wasted space above and making the kitchen feel shorter than it actually was.

Reworking the Layout for Better Flow and Storage
Once our kitchen design team stepped in, the goal became clear: increase usable storage, improve workflow, and modernize the space without sacrificing warmth or character.
First, we removed the built-in framed pantry and replaced it with a tall pantry cabinet featuring roll-out shelves for easy access and organization. Next, we relocated the refrigerator to the former desk area. As a result, we created a longer, uninterrupted run of countertop to the right of the sink—an instant win for prep space and everyday functionality.
Want to see how decisions like these come together? This project is a great example of our process outlined in our kitchen remodel project plan.
Timeless Cabinetry With Purposeful Details
This O’Fallon kitchen remodel features semi-custom cabinetry from Waypoint Living Spaces in a combination of Painted Linen and Maple Slate. The simple shaker-style design delivered a clean, updated look while still feeling timeless. To finish things off, we ran cove crown moulding to the ceiling, eliminated the old soffits, and visually expanded the room.
To complement the cabinetry, we selected Boswell kitchen cabinet hardware with clean lines and a subtle reverse taper. That detail intentionally echoes the slight beveled edge of the Waypoint 410F door style—a small design choice that makes a big visual impact.
Finally, a matte black plumbing package tied everything together and coordinated perfectly with the black cabinet hardware for a unified, polished finish.
A More Functional (and Better Looking) Island
The island also received a major upgrade. Previously, it had an odd angled shape that limited its usefulness. So, we redesigned it with a larger, more functional footprint and dressed the ends with cabinet door panels and decorative base moulding for a furniture-style finish.
On the wall to the left of the sink, we added a quartz waterfall end, creating a bold design moment while reinforcing the kitchen’s modern aesthetic.
A Cooking Wall That Performs as Good as It Looks
Next, we focused on the cooking wall. We replaced the dated over-the-range microwave with a truly decorative hood designed to match the island cabinetry. However, we didn’t stop at appearances.
Inside the hood, we installed a 600 CFM vent fan and liner, providing plenty of power to remove smoke, steam, grease, and cooking odors. Unlike many remodeling companies that cut costs by recirculating air back into the kitchen, we vented this hood to the exterior of the home—because performance matters just as much as design.
Smart Appliance Updates Where They Count
To keep the project efficient, we reused most appliances since they were already stainless steel and recently updated. That said, we made one strategic upgrade: we replaced the microwave with a microwave drawer located in the island for easier access and a cleaner cooking wall.
Backsplash, Lighting, and the Details That Make a Difference
All walls feature Daltile’s Starcastle premium glass backsplash tile, which adds texture and subtle shine throughout the space. To keep the backsplash clean and uninterrupted, we specified angled power strips and relocated outlets to the top of the backsplash rather than cutting into the tile.
We also integrated smart dimmers into the angled power strips, giving the homeowners full control over the under-cabinet lighting without cluttering the walls.
Unifying the Entire Main Level With New Flooring
Over the years, the home had accumulated a patchwork of flooring—hardwood in the entry and hallway, carpet in the living and dining rooms, and ceramic tile in the kitchen and laundry room. While each material had its moment, together they felt disconnected.
So, we removed every flooring surface and installed premium luxury vinyl tile throughout the entire main level. This created a cohesive, updated look that beautifully complements the new kitchen. In addition, we replaced the worn original baseboards with taller primed baseboards for a clean, finished feel from top to bottom.
Quartz Countertops for Beauty and Ease
We upgraded the kitchen countertops to a stunning veined quartz that balances the light and dark finishes throughout the space. Quartz not only looks fantastic—it’s also ridiculously easy to maintain, making it an ideal choice for busy households.
Layered Lighting to Bring It All Together
To finish the space, we installed a lighting package that includes high-quality tunable recessed lighting, tunable under-cabinet lighting, and decorative pendant lighting. The result is a kitchen that feels bright, inviting, and adaptable to everything from morning coffee to evening entertaining.
This kitchen remodel in O’Fallon, MO ultimately became a space that’s just as functional as it is beautiful.
Solving Problems Before They Become Costs
No remodel is perfect, and this project had its share of surprises. Fortunately, we anticipated most of them—and planned accordingly.
When we removed the built-in pantry, we discovered an HVAC supply feeding the second floor hidden inside the framing. This is common in multi-story homes. So, our team framed the wall out and relocated the supply into the new wall behind the cabinetry, keeping the original design intact.
Because the basement ceiling had already been drywalled, the kitchen above was inaccessible from below. When we needed to run a new ¼-inch water line for the relocated refrigerator, our team carefully removed sections of the subfloor to avoid disturbing the finished basement ceiling.
Thanks to our 4P Remodeling Process, we identified these conditions during the pre-construction survey—meaning no surprise costs for the homeowner.
HVAC Supply Relocation

The same approach applied to plumbing. Since the original sink vent ran through the soffit we removed, we rerouted it through the wall studs and into the same joist bay above. We also replaced all shut-off valves as part of our standard remodeling package, because decades-old valves often fail right when you need them most.
Most contractors don’t think this far ahead. We do—because peace of mind matters.
